Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native born in Houston on 17 April 1972. Her dad, William John Garner, worked as a chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Patricia Ann was a teacher at the local university. She graduated in chemical engineering to emulate her father. Since she wanted to be an actress, she went to New York. She worked as a chef in a New York restaurant and was a part of Broadway productions. Her former husband Scott Foley met her on the show "Felicity," where she was a guest. Garner had her breakthrough in her romantic comedic film "13 Goin' on 30" in which she played a teenager trapped in a 30 year-old's body. Garner chose Gary Winick, who directed the movie. Both Winick and Garner were able to continue to collaborate in pursuing other projects even after his passing. Garner has been designated as an ambassador for artists with Save the Children U.S.A. during 2009, had an integral role in the nonprofit organization. The role entails the promotion of nutrition and literacy in the US and early childhood education. Garner was named as a director on the board of the non-profit in 2014. Garner advocates for early child development. Being a part of the Early Steps to School Success (EASS) team of ambassadors for the program Garner regularly visits families to guide them in ways to motivate their children to be successful.
